So I decided I'm going to walk/run a marathon

In June. I'm tired just thinking about it, but I think this will help me stay motivated to get my butt into shape. I've been losing weight pretty steadily since October/November and hopefully this will help me continue that.

I've never done a marathon, this one is only a half marathon, and have no idea what to expect. I just know I don't want to be last lol.

  • You won't be last!!  haha Have a friend do it with you too!  I always work at the last water stop at our marathon here and I see old people walking with their oxygen tanks.  If they can do it, so can you!!  :)  hehe

  • HAHAH, I really want to run it but I suck when it comes to running. Seriously suck. I'm going to a meeting with a couple friends, and I'm trying to get my sisters to do it with me. Maybe some San Diego bumpies (hint hint) will want to join. lol

If I were there, I would do it with you!!  I actually used to be a runner.. went to state in 800 meter / 2 mile relay, ran like 50 miles a week.. I don't know if I could even run a mile in under 15 minutes nows.  I am soooo out of shape.

  • That's awesome.  Try to do it with buddies, and interval train.  (One caution: not to burt your bubble but to be honest, my BFF did one last year and didn't lose any weight: if you're doing it to lose weight try to keep your eating on track, too.  She ate tons more because the training made her hungry).

Okay, well unless her diet consisted of snickers bars and apple pies, I'm sure she toned up, gained muscle and looked better overall after training, riiiiight??? Riiiiighht????

I plead the fifth.  She's my BFF.  Let's just say she LOVES her some food.  IF she hadn't completely over-ate to compensate yes she would have.  I'm sure she was much healthier and toned up underneath.  Seriously, I don't think this would happen with many people: it was just a caution.  She planned to TTC last fall and wanted to get in shape beforehand.

    omg, I'm cracking up!

  • Good for you! I've run two of them. My advice is to get books on "tape"/ipod for your long runs. I loved doing that. And just remember- you have to run your race- not anyone else's. I certainly haven't won either of the two I've run- but I haven't been last either. :)
  • I have walked 2 half marathons.  I trained with DD.  I signed up for another one, but I can't do it because I have a herniated disk in my neck, so I can't push the stroller.  It was really fun.  Both times, I trained with another mom.  I am not that much slower than some of the runners.
  • I'm planning on walking half and running half (well try to lol). I have a funky hip so running usually causes it to make some gross noises and do a lot of popping and grinding.

I'm not doing the marathon to lose weight, I'm doing it to get in shape and to have a goal. It's my motivator lol. I'm planning on pushing Bri in the stroller in it also.
