anyone know anything about cakes??

I'm attempting this for DS' first b-day:

I've got the whole thing made at this point but the blue top cake feels so heavy.  I'm not confident that the base cake will not sink when I put the blue cake on it.  Am I supposed to put dowels or something in the base cake to hold up the top cake?

OMG, woman.  You are AMBITIOUS (and probably very talented) to attempt that).  It is a fabulous cake!  Please post pics when you're done!!!  Sorry, I have no advice for you, just wanted to say I love the cake choice and I am sure O will too!

Anne, my version is more of the cakewreck of that cake but I am pushing through and going to finish it!  At least it'll taste good and was made with a lot of LOVE!

Top layer needs to be on a cardboard circle the same size, and yes, you need dowels or something.

If you have any takeout chopsticks, you can cut those to length and they should work fine. I'd use at least 4, if not 6.

You definitely need dowels to hold up the cake.  I would agree with Lari-probably 6.  And ditto on the cardboard (they sell sets of precut cardboard circles in places like Michaels)  Good luck!  It is a cute cake!
