Working Moms

I love being a working mom : )

I just wanted to write a quick post to any moms worried about returning to work. I spent so much of my maternity leave worried about how I was going to leave my babies (twins) during the day. Well, it has been FINE. I feel so lucky to truly appreciate veery moment I have with them and never take them for granted. It feels like Christmas every day to leave and get to see them after a work day. We worked out a great schedule where I have as much time as possible with them in the mornings and evenings. I work full time - Monday - Friday 9-6. Of course I miss them, but it has not been terrible like I thought it would be. I like not having to worry about finances and be able to significantly contribute to the household income.

I never though I would say this, but I love being a working mom. So this is just some inspiration to those who are worried about returning to work!

Re: I love being a working mom : )

  • Me too! I had a 7 month mat. leave so when I returned to work I knew DS would cope well and be ok! We have a nanny so it wasn't a big transition for him. I really do love my job and I enjoy being a working mom!!!

  • I completely agree! I was very concerned about coming back to work and leaving him in daycare, but it has been a lot easier than I expected. The best part of my day is running out of here to go pick him up.  It is hard to fit everything in, but I feel like the time we spend together now is more quality time because it is so precious.

Glad you are having such a good experience!

  • Right there with you. I stressed so much about his routine and the transition and I wished I had just relaxed and went with it. My DS is so attached to his DCP and her kids and just loves it so I know he is in good hands.

  • I felt the same way when I was just about to go back, like DD would forget all about me and bond with her DCP's more because she would be spending more time during the day with them than she would with me, but that didn't happen and she seems happy at school and happy at home. And I know I am happier working than I would be staying at home, trying desperately to figure out what activities I should be doing with her to promote her development and mostly feeling like I was failing as a mother (this describes my state of mind at the end of maternity leave). And unless daycare calls me I don't worry about the care she is receiving at all. Sometimes I do wish I could work PT or fewer hours so I could be home earlier or off one day a week, but overall I think everything's been working out well.
  • I love it too.  It's great to have a mix of family time and adult time and I feel proud of myself for being able to balance mommying with a job I think I do very well.
  • I do too!  It allows me my independence and freedom to be an adult and also the time to mommy.  I think I balance it very well and she lacks for nothing.  I appreciate the time I have with her a lot more also.
  • Thank you for this!  I'm heading back to work Feb 1.

I posted something similar on the 0-3 board.  https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/29789960.aspx

  • I completely agree. I love being a mommy but I also love working and the balance it brings to my life.
  • Excellent!
  • Thanks for much for this post! I am going back to work in a week and have just started to freak out about it a little bit. A few months ago, I would have loved the break, but now the DS is starting to become a fun little guy, I feel like I am going to miss him sooo much! I hope I have the same experience as you!
  • Thanks for this.  My twin girls will be in daycare in September when I go back to work to teach and they will be a little over 10 months.  I have already cried myself to sleep about this several times, it's good to hear that things are ok!
