Your experiences? We've always been anti-nanny because we prefer the kids have socialization of daycare. However, dd1 is going to kindergarten next year and I am worried about finding care for her- there are no daycare centres who cover this school. I was thinking of getting a nanny, and enrolling dd2 in preschool for socialization. There are a lot of Filipino nannies here but I feel bad because often they have children at home that they are supporting- I just don't feel right with her being away from her child to care for mine, you know? Here, live-in (filipino) nannies run about $1800/month, live-out nannies, ruin about $2700-3000/monthMy only other options are to stay home, or to put her with a babysitter/ inhome caregiver. TIA
Re: xp Anyone have a live-in nanny? Or just an opinion?
I would do a live-in nanny in a heartbeat if I lived in the suburbs and had a house. We have live-out and it's a dream. She works around my schedule and can stay late, come in early, etc. My son gets plenty, plenty of socialization. He has a playdate, playgroup or a class every day. Pick a social nanny, one who has experience organizing playdates. I'd also prefer one who would cook for all of us and clean a bit. I'd also look for one with live-in experience- they know how to disappear when appropriate.
Don't feel bad about her being away from her child- you are helping her feed those children.
You could also look into hosting an Au-pair...whereas the Filipino Nanny is not likely to be a tax writeoff up to $5000 of an Au-Pair can be written off. The upfront cost is a bit more than a Nanny- but you could pay that in Installments or by credit Card and the weekly cost for an Au-Pair is $200...for 45 hours of flexible childcare...

I myself was an Au-Pair with Cultural Care and was never happy with the Agency- which is why I now volunteer for EurAuPair...
