We just got the invoice to store DH's sample for another 12 months, and it's $400! I remembered it being $200, not sure if they raised the rates (DH said we should call and ask for 50% off for being frequent customers, haha).
He doesn't think we should pay to save it, but, morbid as it is, I always liked the idea of it being there if, god forbid, something happened to DH, so I could try to have another child of his if I wanted and give Toodle a sibling (I wouldn't want to just count on one of our remaining two embryos thawing and sticking and like the idea of another shot). Obviously this concern is about 1,000 times less pressing than if we didn't have Toodle, but it's still something I think about.
Thoughts?
Re: WWYD re: stored sperm?
We let ours go, but then we had decided together a long time ago that we (I) would not try to have a child via that sperm (or any remaining embryos) if something happened to DH.
If that's something you want to consider and you have the money, then you should keep it.

If you are not yet decided, then pay for another year and re-assess then.
Wow, ours cost $1200 to store for a year!! We actually kept it for a couple of years and, after having Alana, we decided not to store it anymore, but, we also know we're going to try with our one frozen embryo and that's it for us.
If I knew that there was a possibility that we might want to try for more and might need that sperm AND it was only $400 to store, I would have pushed to keep it.
We discarded DHs. I think he got the invoice and just did away with it. However, we have a new sample frozen for this IVF. Maybe you could justify paying for it if you find out the cost of a refreeze? (which would still probably be a lot less, but i love any justification i can find sometimes!)
If you have the extra cash, i say go for it---if it will ease your mind. I know that if i am ever lucky enough to have frosties left and another child, i won't be discarding them any time soon....even if we say are are 100% done!
