My doctor decided to put me on modified bedrest for PTL. I was actually contracting a little bit in the office today too, blood pressure still higher than what I normally run, and my heartrate was 110. He did check me and I was closed, thick and high (thank goodness). He said that with the 12 hour shifts that I work + the stress of my job it wasn't worth it for me to try to push myself to work any longer than this. He was afraid the longer I would try to work, the shorter my pregnancy would end up being. I'm still a little frazzled by everything that's happened the last two days, but I feel a little relieved that my girls hopefully won't be feeling the stress both physically and mentally that I get from work.
I also found out that the AFLAC that my husband has won't cover my home bedrest or my delivery (the pregnancy has to start 10 months after the policy starts, how goofy is that?) But it will cover if I happen to get hospitalized prior to the girls arriving (ie pre-e, sickness, etc). I am so happy that my short term disability covers 70% of my base pay, I don't know what we would've done financially if it didn't.
Re: F/U to Heading to the Doctor
good for you! Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy - resting! I quit my job as a pharma rep at the beginning of my 2nd Tri and I feel like it has made all the difference in the world in my health & size/health of my babies. I am still on modified bed rest because of contrax, but I can't imagine still working into the 20+ weeks, esp on my feet - I give you alot of credit for making it that far with such a stressful job.
Good luck!
It's definitely better to be safe than sorry. That's great that you can take short-term disability. I worked on my feet until 25 weeks and then I decided I had enough. Even though we need the money (who doesn't?) I decided that my health and the health of my babies was way more important.
I'm also on bed rest now due to PTL. It's a challenge, but at least I feel like I have some control over when these babies come (hopefully!). Good luck and hang in there!
