weight diffrence between A & B

I had my u/s yesterday and baby A weight is weighing in at 4lbs 10oz and B is weighing in at 4lbs. A has always weighed 3oz more than B. But all of a sudden a 10oz difference in just two weeks. I understand that U/S measurements can be off. The tech even said A wasn't fully cooperating but B was. Is this something I should be worried about? What are your experiences with this? Is there anything I can do?

This was taken at my regular OB, I don't see a peri. Should I go see one now? I feel like I am a little late to be going to one.

Thanks ladies!

Re: weight diffrence between A & B

  • Are they identical or fraternal?  Do they share a placenta?

Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise. image

They are Fraternal and have separate placenta

  • At 31w, you're going to have a lot of trouble getting accurate measurements on both babies every time.  There's just not that much room left in there anymore.  I'm sure everything is fine.  Typically, those measurements can be off by as much as a pound, so really the difference could be as small as 6 oz.  Or maybe A just had a growth spurt.  It's hard to say.  If they looked good and were acting fine and the tech didn't tell you to see your peri, I'm sure it's fine.
  • Oh, and FWIW, my boys were 15 oz. different in weight at birth.  So it's not uncommon for them to be different sizes.
  • US can be off by quite a bit... and it's common for babies to be different weights. My boys were 2lbs different at birth.
  • Thank you for all of the advice and giving me back my confidence!
  • Ditto what the other ladies said.  There was an 11 ounce difference in my boys at birth and now there's almost a 2lb difference.  One's just naturally a little smaller than his brother.  Good luck and try not to worry :)  Easier said than done though, right!?
