Thoughts on the Bumbo seat

My friend is posting pictures of her 1 month old son in a Bumbo seat.  Is it just me - or is he too little for that thing? I never owned one, so I'm not really sure.  I would hate for her to be doing damage to her son (let's just put this out there - she isn't the most brilliant woman in the world,  seeing as how her FB status says that she thinks the secret to getting her son to sleep longer at night is to feed him better).

can he hold his head up? that is when we started using it.  but dd's legs were too chunky so we had to pry the leg holes open to get her out..barely used it

That was my thought about him being able to hold his own head up.  I don't think very many one month olds can hold their head up for any great length of time.

I dont think a 1 month old has enough neck & back strength to sit it.  I didnt start to put M in it until she was 4 months old....she was a late bloomer.

Both of my girls loved sitting up in the bumbo, but we didn't start using it until they could hold their head up on their own.

Ya, if he can hold his head up well he is not too young.  I think that is when I started using it.  I used to have to put pillows around DS to keep his body from going to the side...but he had a strong neck so had no problem holding his head up.  And he loved sitting in it and watching me make dinner, etc.

DD1 and DS didn't use it until 3 or 4 months old.  DD2 started using it around 1 month.  Her head is tiny (10 percentile) and she could hold it up at that age.  She loves sitting in but I almost never used it with the other kids.

He is too young.  My DS is almost 3 weeks and he will not be in it anytime soon.

Some babies are stronger than others.   Age really doesn't have a lot to do with when he is ready for the bumbo.    Natalie was in is around 2 months (that's when we bought it).   Olivia (my oldest) would have been able to sit in it for sure at one month old (had we had a bumbo) - she was a very strong baby and always (when I say always, I mean from birth) had a strong neck and back.   She never needed us to support her neck.   So, maybe you friend's baby is a strong baby, and if not ..... eek!
