Ok, I am relatively new to all of this. Clomid didn't do anything for me, so I am about to start Femara. I will go in between CD 12-14 for an ultrasound and hcg trigger shot if my follies are big enough, then we will have TI.
I have read a lot on these boards about canceled cycles because of too many mature follies....but those posts were always for girls having IUI. Is that something I would need to worry about with TI also? Do I run the risk of having too many follies and the doctor not doing the trigger?
Thanks for any insight you may have! This can all get so confusing!

Re: Question about # of follies and TI
Yes it is something you need to worry about with TI.
The Gosselin sextuplets are a result of too many follicles and TI - I am sure there are many more HOM that were the results of simply having sex when too many mature follicles were present.
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
yes, you absolutely need to worry about having too many mature follies with TI.
my RE's rule, which i think is reasonable, is to cancel the cycle if there are more than three mature follies. (there were only four mature follies when the gosselin sextuplets were conceived--sometimes a smaller follicle will unexpectedly release an egg.) some doctors have more flexible rules if you are receptive to selective reduction in the case of HOM. i would suggest educating yourself about HOM and also selective reduction; unfortunately, fertility treatments are risky when it comes to multiples, so it's important to know what you're dealing with and what options you're comfortable with.
very best of luck!
Eep! I didn't know the gosselin sextuplets were from TI....I guess I assumed it was IVF or something!
Don't get me wrong...I would be thrilled to be pregnant..with one...two...even three. More than that at once terrifies me!

Nope. IVF is actually the most controlled of all fertility treatments. IUIs and TI often yield HOM. Most people assume the same thing as you did, which gives fertility treatments a bad name.
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
Well, my DH and I disagree with each other on selective reduction (I don't know that I could do it...he has no problem with it).
So, I think we will see where we are at with my follies on CD12, and depending on the number make our decision from there whether we are willing to go forward this cycle or not. Hoping for a good number - not wanting to become the next octo-mom!

Interesting. I haven't done too much research into IUI or IVF because we aren't to that stage yet. That's why I love this board so much...there are so many ladies who are so knowledgeable and can help inform those of us who are new to this journey....
Thanks!

I want to say that yes TI & IUI are always at risk for HOM & your RE should speak to you about that pending your follicle ultrasounds. I also do want to add that just because what works for one doesn't necessarily will work for others. I have responded very well in my opinion & to the drs opinion with injections (text book cycles to get pregnant). I get the speach every month when I have had 3-4 mature follicles. I was left with BFNs after BFNs. This month he was a little more aggressive with the meds & yes I have more mature follicles than before & of course *enter speach of HOM* but I am not getting pregnant so we will see. It's all on how you will handle selective reduction if necessary.
I wanted to add that I have always been TI.
After 2+ years and multiple treatment cycles,
including an IVF vacation in Costa Rica/Panama,
IVF #2 brought us our miracle baby!
Surprise! Baby Boy is on the way!
it definitely matters with TI! My RE will cancel if I have more than 3 mature follies for both TI and IUI.
And the Gosselin twins and sextuplets were both conceived using IUI, but it defintely could happen with TI so you want to be careful with both.
ETA: and actually the more I was thinking about it TLC has a show called Table for 12 and they have like 2 sets of twins and sextuplets and those were all TI!!
No the sextuplets were from TI. Kate's IUI was cancelled but they went forward against doctor's orders with TI.
hmmmm then she must be a liar (which doesn't surprise me!). On her show she said it was IUI and that makes me sick that she went ahead with TI
When I posted this, I had been waiting for my doc to call me back (I had other questions for him), so I figured I would ask about this too when he called. I just spoke to him, and he did say the same things you ladies said...yes, there is a chance that we might have to cancel the cycle if there are too many "good" follicles. He said he hasn't seen it that often, but it is possible. He said we will discuss our options after the ultrasound.
So....now I just gotta start the femara on friday, and go in for the ultrasound of my follies on Feb. 1. I'm excited!

In her book she talks about how she got OHSS (which means she had WAY too much going on in there) but that they still had sex and got pregnant. There were 7 babies at first but they lost one.
