Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Co-worker wants to watch my DD, do I pay her?

My co-worker is engaged and really into babies and asked me when she could watch my DD so DH and I could go out for dinner. DH's b-day is coming up so I said sure for a couple hrs. Do I offer to pay her?? I don't want to offend her but I don't want her to feel like I'm taking advantage either...

  • Personally, I would offer to pay her.

  • If she offered and it wasn't due to you complaining that you can't find a sitter than no I wouldn't pay her monetarily.  Instead I might bake her something or do something nice for her in the near future.

  • always offer to pay.  she'll probably say no, and then you can bring her some food, or a small starbucks gift card or something to say thanks.
  • I have a couple of different friends that have watched Miles because they wanted to.  I offered to pay, but they both declined.  If she's really that into babies, she'll do the same.  If not, you'll know her expectations for next time. :)

  • i have a coworker who does the same.  i offered to pay her, of course she denied, but i got her a little gift from my son.  in this case it was Xmas so i got her a little ornament.  i wouldn't do it each time, but every now and then.
