Infertility

Cornell ladies

Tomorrow I have my first monitoring appt and I believe that means I have to pay upfront for the entire IVF. (I have insurance but Cornell doesn't accept it.) I am very aware of the fact that I might not make it to retrieval/transfer, and I know if that happens they pay you back, but what is the best option for now? I can't submit to insurance until the actual procedure is done, right? so that means either paying out of my savings (which I am fortunate to be able to do), or putting it on a credit card (which would mean paying interest).

Would you share how you went about it? TIA!?

Dx: High FSH, stage IV endo, homozygous C677T MTHFR and PAI-1
Early loss 10/08

Switched clinics - dx'd as carrier for Fragile X
IVF #2 MDL protocol Jan/Feb converted to IUI, BFN
IVF #2 take 2: Antagonist, one embie, BFN
IVF #3: Antagonist, no fertilization
One last ditch effort at OE IVF (antagonist with Clomid) cancelled
DE cycle #1 Jan/Feb 2011, BFP, ectopic
DE cycle #2 June/July 2011 - BFP
10/28/11 Baby girl lost at 17 weeks due to pre-term labor. We love and miss you.
DE cycle #3 June/July 2012 - BFP, twins, both heartbeats stopped, D&C
2 frosties but don't know what's next
FET Dec 2012: BFP! Praying this one sticks for the long haul!

Re: Cornell ladies

  • This is my first OOP IVF cycle with Cornell and I'll be putting it on a card that earns pints for airline mileage then paying it off through savings. Good luck!

  • I'm a Cornell patient, and though I haven't done IVF yet I have had to pay all my iui's upfront.  However, they send you the forms for your insurance company within 2 weeks and GHI sends me reimbursments fairly quickly.  How much, if you don't mind me asking, is the upfront payment for IVF? (you can pm me if you want)

i did this too.  i didn't have ER or ET b/c of failed mTESE and they credited me back that portion very quickly and mailed me the other paperwork for monitoring appts to submit to insurance within in a week or two.

it was around $9000 for ivf when I did it last march

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

  • I would put it on a cc that I earn miles or get rewards $$back. or one that you get some kind of points toward something. Then immediately when I got the bill take the money out of savings. That way you get something for spending the money. I know a lot of people have cc from grogery stores. Imagine if you got gift cards for groceries from $9000. BUt pay it off right away so you don't pay interest.
