Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Have you had to cut LO's toe nails?

I seem to cut her fingernails a few times a week but I haven't once yet had to cut her toenails. Is that normal they haven't grown in 3 months?!

Oh, and while I'm on the topic of cutting nails, I just started using the nail clippers last week instead of a file and I totally got a piece of LO's skin - TWICE. It didn't seem to bother her much but I felt awful! How on earth do you avoid that when they're moving around?

  • No, her toenails haven't really grown out.  I was wondering the same thing!

I try to cut Zoe's nails when she's asleep or at least drowsy.  It's MUCH easier!

  • so funny that this is posted today.  I just noticed this morning that her legs have scratches on them.  And I realized that it was from her big toe nails and being in the sleep sack!!!  I have to figure out how to file them tonight.  I cannot clip her nails due to cutting. It happened twice and I felt so bad that I cried.
  • I haven't had to cut DD's toenails yet but I cut her finger nails at least twice a week.  She's scratch the crap out of her face if I didn't.  Ever since she found her hands, they are constantly all over her face.  I use clippers and too have cut her before.  I felt awful.  I now do it when she's really drowsy on my lap with a paci in her mouth.  She stays pretty still.

  • i didn't cut them for probably 2 months, but lately i've had to cut them a lot. i guess the more you cut them, the faster they grow.

and i would cut his nails while he slept - but that was when he slept on me in a wrap. now he naps in his crib, so i try to cut them when he's eating.

  • I cut DD's while she's nursing and I use the little nail scissors that came in our Am. Red Cross baby 1st aid kit.  Much easier!
  • His toenails don't grow as fast as his fingernails, but I've had to cut them maybe once a month.  Now that he's sleeping in his crib I'm having a hard time finding a good time to clip his nails!  I try to put a video on the computer for him and cut them, but he loses interest pretty quickly.
  • I've cut DSs toenails once.  They looked like they were curving into the tips of his toes.  So ouch...cut them asap.  I have always used a nail clippers.  I have cut him once though :(
