New to this board...back to work yesterday. Quick ques

DS napped like crap yesterday (his first day at daycare).  Provider said he slept maybe 2 - 2.5 hours all day.  I understand that there was a lot more going on with more kids and a new place, but he was SUPER crabby when I got him home.  He cried hysterically from being over tired and it wasn't good.  Will things get better?  Will he eventually learn to nap in this new, busy, loud place?  BTW - we're at an in-home day care.

  • He may or may not get better at napping there ... 2.5 hours doesn't sound too bad to me.  However, one thing you can do right now to help the situation is to put him to bed really early (like 6:30 or 7:00), at least temporarily.

  • Thanks....last night he napped immediately when we got him home (after the screaming died down) and then I woke him at 8:30 pm for one last meal and a bath before bed.  He went down for the night and slept until I woke him at 7 am this morning.
  • Things will get better!  DD started daycare at 4.5 months and it took her a couple weeks to get adjusted to being in a new place and sleeping in a crib with all sorts of activity.  She eventually fell into a routine.  It may take weeks, but he'll get there!
  • Yes, it will get better. My DS is 20 months old and he still comes home totally crabby and needs to go to bed early and sleeps a ton on the weekend. They're very busy at day care.
