Starting solids with milk allergy

DD is 5.5 months old.  She has a pedi appt in one month, but she is definitely ready for solids.  She has a milk protein allergy and I BF (dairy free diet) and supplement with Nutramigen.  Any experience with this?  I heard from a friend to avoid peas and green beans because they are in the soy family?  So far she has had rice cereal, sweet potatoes and carrots with no problems (one per week).

Re: Starting solids with milk allergy

  • I'm glad you asked because we're in the same boat.  I found an Organic rice cereal without soy in it, but haven't tried anything yet.  I had no idea about peas and green beans so thanks for posting this!  I didn't think to ask at his appointment on Wednesday, but I really need to add it to the list.

  • DD1 had a dairy allergy and we started her on peas first and then did green beans whenshe started solids. She didn't have a problem with either one.

  • DD#1 was on nutramigen and we had to use BeechNut cereal because it was milk free.  All veggies and fruit she was fine on.  The key is to go slow.  DD#2 is on Neocate and has really bad allergies.  We have to wait to give cereal until 9 months.  At 6 months we will go really really slow with some fruits and veggies.
