If you have life insurance for your kid(s)...

Who did you get it through? The convo a few weeks ago got me thinking, and I'd like to get enough to cover expenses and some time off work. So, where's the best place to get it?

I just got a mailing from Mutual of Omaha for $30,000 in coverage for $9/mo. Is that a good deal? Should I look into the company where we carry our policies? Any other company I should try?

Thanks!

Re: If you have life insurance for your kid(s)...

  • Ours is thru Farm Bureau Insurance (also where we have DH/I's life policies, home, cars, DH's trade ins).  We have $100K policies on the 3 youngest (DS1 was born with a heart defect, so we keep applying and they keep putting us off...."wait another year"...but he's perfectly healthy now after sx).  All are whole life, and are about $12/child/month.

FWIW....my parents started a $25K whole life policy on me when I was 2.  It is now worth about $87K  (I'm 30) and I have it paying for itself while I'm a SAHM.

  • We use Northwestern Mutual for all of our investments, including life insurance for the kids. If you want I can email you his contact info. I've used our rep since 2001.
