Babies: 3 - 6 Months

XP: Did your reflux baby refuse to eat?

My LO has really bad reflux.  At this point he's on the max dose of Prevacid and has already tried Zantac too.  He is eating the bare minimum now- down to 23 ounces a day from his peak of 41.  We've tried adding in solids but he'll only eat pears and oatmeal/rice constipated him terribly.  He is clearly in a ton of pain, is up all night screaming and is happy-ish during the day as long as I don't try to feed him.  I've got a call into the pedi's office but at our last visit they said there's probably not much more they can do in terms of meds.

Did anyone here experience this and find relief in any way?

  • I am really sorry for your LO. Have you tried switching formulas? Could he also have a milk protein allergy? Before we caught DS's reflux, the pedi thought he had a milk protein allergy because he wouldn't eat much. You might try that. I really hope it gets better for you.

ETA: We had to be hospitalized because of dehydration after a day of refusal to eat. He consumed only 8 oz in a 9 hour day time period at 2 months.

  • Sorry to hear your LO is not feeling well! For us, the opposite happened with reflux - she was eating a lot (I guess it eases the pain for some children). I am using Nestle Good Start Protect Plus with probiotics and it seems to have helped (together with Zantac). Good luck!

He's actually given breastmilk in a bottle.  A few months ago during another eating strike he started refusing the breast and would only take tiny amounts from a bottle.  Since then he's acted like the breast is a foreign object.  I'm also already off dairy since that didn't seem to agree with him.

  • What about other allergies - wheat, soy, nuts, etc?

Also, Harrison usually only logs 24 oz in a day.  He's just not a huge eater & he won't (usually) eat more than 3-4 oz in a sitting.
