I gave in

We had been trying to de-swaddle DD starting Friday night and it hasn't been going well. After only getting 2 hours of sleep last night, and trying to get her to go down again tonight without the swaddle, I gave up about 5 minutes ago.  She's now swaddled and hasn't made a peep since I laid her back down.  I figure we'll have to try again in a couple weeks but right now it's just not worth the total sleep depreviation for both her & I.

Re: I gave in

  • Why is it bad for them to remain swaddled at a certain age? DD hated the swaddle and we stopped at maybe a month but I was just wondering.

  • It's not great when they can roll, but their arms are restricted. At that point, I will remove the swaddle. I do not look forward to that day.

  • I feel your pain.  DD is over 5 months old and we are still swaddling.  We have tried several times to wean and it was a nightmare.  She just had an appt with pedi on Friday and he said it is fine to continue.  She can roll over both ways when not swaddled but can't when she is in it.

Thanks for posting that piece of info....it's mainly the only reason I wanted to de-swaddle her.  She just started rolling from her back to front (only know because at daycare, she'll end up on her stomach when they put her down on her back) but has not yet done it in the swaddle.  I figure we'll try again in a few weeks or give the woombie a try.

  • I swaddle AND use a sleep positioner.  LO isn't going anywhere without making enough noise to wake me up.  Most of the time he doesn't start moving around until his arms have escaped anyway so by then the swaddle is hall off if he DID decide to roll.
