Potty problems

Help! I'm having trouble getting my son to poop on the potty! He will pee in the potty standing up but won't sit to go.  He will tell us that he needs a pull-up to go poop.  I'm afraid that when the new baby gets here, I'll be changing diapers and pull-ups! Any suggestions would be helpful!

  • Weird question, but has he seen his dad sit down on the potty? With kids they learn by watching what their parents do. Maybe if he sees that it is ok, and normal for him to sit down like his father it would make things eaiser. Just a suggestion.

Good Luck, I hated potty training. Lol

  • What worked for us was special underwear.

I let him pick some out (Thomas) and they sat in the bathroom by the potty as a reminder that they were there.  We told him he could wear his Thomas' as soon as he put his poop in the potty.

In the mean time he was wearing boring solid colored undies.

As soon as we caught one poop on the potty Thomas started talking to him from his bootie....  "peep peep - Don't poop on me!"

Then he'd walk up to us and say "I can't poop on Thomas!" and we'd know it was time.

Figure out what his motivator is and use it.

What's the one thing he loves more than anything else in the whole world?    Is it something he can have as soon as he puts his poop in the potty?

For us it was a matter of getting a couple of hits on the potty and then it was smooth sailing.  We just had to get over the hump.

Also - ask him point blank why he wants to put his poop in a pull up like a baby.  He may surprise you with an answer like "I dont' like the splash" or I'm afraid I'll fall in"  Then you can deal directly with what's causing his fear or hesitation.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
