Has anyone's BF'ed LO vomited formula?

DD has been EBF'ed for almost 5 months, but we have to start supplementing with formula now.I gave her 3oz of Similac Advanced yesterday followed by cereal mixed with 1 oz of formula, just to see how it would go. She drank it just fine, but then 2 hours later projectile vomited 5 times within the course of 5 hours.I called the pedi today, and she thinks LO is intolerant to cow's milk formula, and wants me to try soy. I'm not convinced though and think she may do better on a different brand (maybe the "sensitive" version). Has anyone's LO reacted so strongly to formula? What did you end up doing?

  • Was she already eating cereal before this? I wouldt give formula and cereal at the same time when introducing formula. Try giving mixes of formula/bm? It might have just been too much at once. Formula & cereal are both thicker than bm so maybe it was just too much "food" at once. Also, I have a friend who just recently had tried a few different formula's even sensitive ones & is now on soy and her son has done a complete 180. He is doing so much better on soy. Just thought id add that in.

Yes - she's been eating cereal for a week now, with no issues, so I didn't thinkbto cut it out when introducing the formula...

I really wish I could do this, but my supply is tanking and don't think I can sustain her for the next 7 months. :(
  • I'd try the sensitive kind before going to soy, personally.
  • YES! He projectile vomited formula the only time i have gotten any down him. This was a few months ago. He also screams bloody murder whenever I try to give him any now and wont even take a 4oz bottle with 1oz formula. I have also tried soy, but it smelled like dog food and he hated it even more. I have given up on weening... :(
