Doing my first PIO in an hour or two...any tips?

I am scared. DH is going to do it for me. I watched a few videos on youtube.com of women doing it themselves. I definitely couldn't do that.?

I think I am going to ice it for a few minutes beforehand, have him to the injection, and then massage it for a few minutes with a warm washcloth, and then use a heating pad on it. Does that sound right? Or does icing it make the veins constrict too much? How long should I ice it for?

  • Your plan sounds about right!  I always iced for about 10 minutes, and it really helped!  I did hear this morning on an earlier post that if you warm up the oil first (like in your hands or place it in your bra) it helps it go in easier.  Def. massage and use a heating pad after.  Some people walk around/do lunges, etc to get it to disperse.  Good luck!  It's really not as bad as it seems like it would be. =)

  • Definitely don't be scared.  I don't even feel the needle go in, and the soreness didn't start until a few hours later for me.

I will say this though.  Yesterday we lightly massaged after the injection, and that side still hurts.  This morning we did the other side, and massaged the crap out of it (my DH really put his back into it) and it doesn't hurt at all.  As a matter of fact, it hurt less, and hurts less now, than the stimming injections.

Rub rub rub and use a heating pad afterwards!  GL.

This last sentence is perfect advice! Good luck. It really is not that bad overall.
