Naughty puppy issues

Our dog has never had an issue with running away. She went to puppy obedience school and is even a certified hunting dog which was a 3 week long course that DH and her went to in another state. Well our town doesn't allow fences so we just let the dogs out to do their business throughout the day and then let them run for about an hour or two at night when we can go out with them. They do not go anywhere as long as we are outside with them. My dog, however, has taken to chasing rabbits out of the yard and doesn't seem to want to come back. She breaks tie outs of all sorts (she broke her collar when we put her on a horse line) and runs straight through electric fences (which we put up as a last resort). Its in her breed to chase and catch small animals but its a PITA and I can't go outside with her everytime she needs to go potty because I have W to deal with. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

Re: Naughty puppy issues

  • Is your yard too huge for invisible fence?

Or maybe (I'm not sure I'm in love with this idea, but desperate times...) one of those shock collars on low wattage - set boundaries with flags, and when she gets close, issue a warning beep and a (super low wattage) shock.

I know a lot of people would consider that cruel, but she sounds highly trainable, so one small shock (and a lot of warning "beeps" may be all she needs. It beats losing your dog every night or an even worse alternative.
