RP: Tipping the babysitter?

How much do you tip your babysitter, if at all?  I'll be hiring someone for 4 hours a week and have no idea what to tip her. Thanks!

  • I was just thinking about this plus, what do baby sitters make now a days?  I used to make between 4-7$ an hour 13 years ago.  I cant even begin to think about what to pay a baby sitter now.

Maybe you would round up once a week or something like that to tip.  Depending on how you are paying her/him.

  • We don't tip babysitters.  That's why we pay an hourly rate.

Ok, thanks.  I could have sworn that I was tipped as a babysitter - but that was 15 years ago, so I could be wrong!

  • I don't tip babysitters.  For Emerson I pay 10 an hour for high school kids and 15 an hour for college age.  I have no idea what you'd pay for twins.  My guess is 12 an hour for high school and 18 or 20 for a college age babysitter?

I was never tipped as a babysitter so, I'm not going to tip.

  • I never got tips when I babysat.  Sometimes parents paid me more than what they had originally said they would, but that was more of a treat than a regular occurrence.

  • tips??  I have never once heard anyone doing this- except for holidays - giving something extra, etc.

it's hourly.  any babysitter who expects a tip should be charging more hourly IMO.

  • Hi- i am 28 and a kindergarten teacher... I am also the "town babysitter"... I babysit all the time.. The town that I teach in (not live in Smile) is a wealthy town. The going rate is 20$ an hour and I do have 2 families that pay 25$ an hour... some people tip and some dont.. Most people just round up... for example if im there 4 1/2 hours, they pay me for 5.. I also have one family who always gives me 10$ more than she owes me.  Hope this helps..
  • I have never heard of tipping a babysitter except at the time of holidays or something or maybe just paying a little more or rounding up from 1/2 hr if you really like the person or they did something special that day. It isn't a service occupation like waitressing or bellhop where their hourly rate is soooo low & they need tips to make any money.
