The Strongs are good friends of my best friend. Their daughter has SMA - the #1 genetic killer of children. 90% of children diagnosed with SMA will not live past their 2nd birthday. SMA takes away their bodies' ability to move, breath, and swallow - but their minds are unaffected. 1 in 40 of us unknowingly carries the gene that causes SMA.

The Strongs have set up a foundation - The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation - to help fund research for a cure (and researchers believe a cure can and will be found within the next few years). The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation is now a finalist in the Chase Community Giving campaign on Facebook. IF THEY WIN, THEY RECEIVE $1 MILLION TO DONATE TO SMA RESEARCH. This is HUGE.
