Anyone drink protein shakes?

I hate breakfast but I know I need protein in my diet in the mornings ( I also detest eggs) so I'm thinking about drinking a protein shake in the morning but have no clue which brand would be good.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Re: Anyone drink protein shakes?

  • I am pretty much the same way but I just couldnt swallow the protein shakes...they are on the icky side to me.  So what I will do is make myself a fruit shake (frozen fruit - juice or milk - lil bit of ice - blend) and I will add a flavor protein powder to it.

Or if I dont have time to do that - I drink a bottle of Ensure...usually the chocolate one or a slim fast.

  • I have a slim fast every morning.  I just buy the big can from Sam's and mix it myself.  I drink it for the extra nutrients not the "diet" factor.  I also really like Ensure, but they are really expensive.

  • You can get slimfast in a high protein shake. They have 15 grams per can, the low carb ones have 20 grams per can and no sugar :) I drink the low carb ones because I do a low carb diet.

  • I make one every morning. I've not had much of an appetite this pregnancy, especially in the mornings, but my midwife wants me getting a ton (75+g/daily) of protein. So I started making a daily shake. I use hemp milk (5g per serving), rice ice cream, frozen berries, chocolate syrup, a banana, and 3 scoops of rice protein powder (12g per scoop). That way I'm getting over 40g in each shake. It's really yummy and I can mix up which berries I use for different flavours. It also doesn't take long to throw it all in the blender and let it mix while fixing our breakfasts.
  • I'm on Atkins, so they're a staple in my diet. The Atkins and Myoplex ones aren't terrible, but VERY expensive w/out coupons or sales. I rec going to GNC or a local healthfoods store and getting a big thing of powder to mix yourself. For me-the colder they are, the easier they go down. I'm a huge fan of Nature's Best Isopure Cookies n' Cream flavor. Nummy!

  • Oh and the muscle milk ones are not too bad. Lots of flavors but they are not cheap. I get coupons once in a while and see them on sale occasionally too....
  • BSN Lean Dessert in whipped vanilla is my fave. It tastes great, has a lot of protein, and is low in calories and sugar. I blend it with a cup of skim milk, a few ice cubes, a few slices of frozen banana, a tsp of peanut butter, and a big handful of baby spinach-once it's blended, you can't taste the spinach at all-it's delicious!

  • I have tried them all.  The best I have found is chocolate Designer Whey.  1 serving is 130 calories and 25 grams of protein.  I always make it with skim milk and ice in the blender.  I doctor them up some times too with almond extract, peanut butter or frozen banana.  I also have the vanilla, but I like the chocolate better.  With the vanilla, I use coconut extract and crushed pineapple, frozen berries, or a little canned pumpkin and cinnamon.  You add a little bit of calories, but it makes it much better.
