GD blood sugar testing - how frustrated and freaked should I be?

So I have been following my dieticians meal plan for 2 weeks (to the tea) and testing my blood sugar for 2 weeks.  I was put on glyburide earlier this week for my fasting and breakfast numbers.  My lunch and dinner numbers are always in range which is great.  My fasting number and breakfast number were good for like two days on the glyburide and now they are starting to creep back up again.  My fasting this morning was 112 and my breakfast was 126 (which was probably impacted by my high fasting number).  I am seeing my dr twice a week to go over numbers so he is on top of what's going on but I am just very frustrated at this point.  I am doing the work and being diligent and it seems like I am just ending up with bad numbers.  Ugh!!  Is this almost over??

  • I know that stress can make your blood sugar numbers higher, so I try to do things to manage my stress everyday.  I really like to do guided meditations - so I usually do a quick (15 minute) one a couple times a day.  You could try something like that and see if it helps at all.

If not, don't be too hard on  your self.  This really has to do w/hormone levels and is not a measure of how good you are as a person - it's just a number.

GD is tough - but we are here for you!

  • I guess I am just mostly freaked because I am worried that numbers out of range (even just slightly) are going to harm the baby.  Being a natural worryer and obsessor probably doesn't help Smile.

  • I understand - I'm a natural worrier too.  But I really think you will be ok - your doctor seems really on top of it.
  • I know it is hard at the start.

I suggest you start by trying to add 10 min of exercise right after you eat. You don't even need to go outside. March on the spot in front of the tv, vacuum, alk the halls, whatever.  For most people moving around after eating makes a huge different in how their body copes with the sugars i is creting from the carbs.

Also, your dietian's food plan may not be quite right for you.  I could handle her recommendations at lunch and dinner. Breakfast was another story.  I had to reduce the number of carbs from what I was 'allowed'.  I could also only eat certain things.  Fruit, for, example sent me skyhigh at breakfast.

I had a few high numbers - we all get them.  My baby was induced at  40 weeks and weighed 7 lbs 7 oz.

  • I just posted about taking Glyburide! Are you nervous about taking it?
