Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I really need to vent

So DS started daycare in November.  Before that he was at home with a nanny.  Since he started daycare, he has had a cold, cough, runny nose off and on.  I totally expected this as he just start daycare.

Last Friday DS threw up like 5 times in less than 2 hours.  I think part of his issue was this stomach virus going around (DH and I got the virus too later in the weekend) and the other part was that he had some congestion that was draining.

One day this week, DS threw up at daycare and they said he was coughing really bad right.  Last night he was couging really badly after we put him to bed and he threw up again.

DS has his 15 month appt on Monday and I was going to bring it up with the doctor then, but DH was talking to his sister, who is a pharmacist, and she convinced him that we needed to call the doc today.  DH refused to call himself so I called this morning.  The pedi wants to see him today and see if he needs a breathing treatment and rule out whooping cough (he's certain that it isn't that).  I'm pretty sure that he isn't going to need anything other than perhaps an antibiotic, but I love that our pedi's office is so proactive.

Now DH is mad at me because I can't go to the appointment.  I was off last Friday when DS was sick.  It's year-end and I have a ton of work to do.  DH choose to stay at home yesterday morning and didn't get to work until after 2:00 so he didn't get a lot done, but it was his choice.

Now my SIL is sending me texts telling me that we need to demand that they do allergy bloodwork on DS since my niece has really bad allergies.  There is no indication that DS has allergies.  He has a cough.  Yes, it's come and gone, but the school, our friends and the pedi all told us to expect this since DS just started daycare.  I get so frustrated when she interferes like this.  She's going to convince DH to demand this bloodwork and then DS is going to have a completely unnecessary blood draw.  My only hope is that the pedi doesn't go for it.  Arrrr.

Re: I really need to vent

  • DD had the same thign on and off for about 2 weeks. Come to find out her HORRIBLE coughing was caused by her sinuses dripping and thats what was causeing her to throw up. Even though there was no infection they put her on penicillin to be safe and it slowely went away on its own. I managed to get dd to sleep at an incline one night to help with the drainage and the next night she did it on her own because I think she realized it made her feel better. DD also started daycare in November. Goodluck!!
