Hi! I'm fairly new to the area and am trying to figure out where to deliver at and a great dr to use! I've talked to about 4 women, 2 said Mobile Infirmary and to use Margaret McGrath and 2 said USA Women's and Children's Hospital. I had my 20 wk ultrasound at Mobile Infirmary and met the dr there after a 2 HOUR wait during which we were never told once that the dr was running behind. Needless to say that didn't impress me much. Any input/experience with either of these places would be a great help! Thanks!
Re: Mobile ladies...info needed please
I was supposed to deliver at Providence- which is really nice and great...but was transferred and delivered at USA b/c of my situation. USA is not fancy- no frills in the room but I could not have asked for better nurses/doctors. To this day, I still keep in touch with some of the nurses. They were phenomenal!
Several of the girls on here delivered at Mobile Infirmary and I think all had positive experiences as well.
I use Dr. McGrath and she delivered my son. I love that group and I loved Mobile Infirmary. Yes, the wait can be bad sometimes, but I always had great care. They really try and take care of their patients. You can call and ask a "stupid question" and they will never make you feel stupid for it.
After stories from a friend using a different doctor in a different group I refuse to switch.
Lisa (on this board) uses Dr. Max from the Mobile Infirmary group and loves him as well. My SIL used Dr. Rogers from the same group and loved her as well. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the doctors, really.
I love Dr. Max Rogers with OBGYN Assoc at Mobile Infirmary. I have learned to always get a very early appointment, or you will end up waiting. However, every time I am annoyed with my wait (which happens pretty often), I realize that it is b/c I am NEVER rushed by my dr - he answers all of my questions. I also think that you have to realize that given the nature of delivering babies, it's more often that not that most OBs are going to have a hard time always being timely.
That said, I will also say that Mobile Infirmary is not the newest hospital, but I had a wonderful experience with all the staff there during L&D, recovery, etc.
Our birthmother delivered at Children's and Women's and we had an AMAZING experience.
The rooms are NOT fancy. They're small and there aren't frills. You don't deliver in your room like you would at a more modern hospital. But the nurses, aids, doctors, and all of the staff are just wonderful. I can't say enough good things about them. She didn't get to choose her doctor b/c she was on medicaid, but the staff doctors there were again just wonderful. They're also the only hospital with a NICU in this area, so if that's something that concerns you, you should definitely deliver there.
Hi Kacy,
My name is Docia and I'm from the Mobile area. I was born at Mobile Infirmary and they have made some nice updates to the hospital but I personally wouldn't reccommend Women's and Children's! It is for those that don't have insurance and is quite run down and "ghetto", my mother-in-law used to work there! I would suggest Providence-which is really well known and nice or SpringHill Hospital -where I plan on having my baby! My doctor's name is Dr. Valgalas at Azalea City Phyisican Center for Women, and the office is quite beautiful on second floor of Building 2. I think you should also take into account how far you live from these hospitals and remember actual labor will take hours, so there's probably no need to panic. Hope this helps and good luck with your future baby!
