Dear Organized Moms: I need your help! - PIP

What do you do with this mess?

image

What you are looking at is 9 bags of nuts, seeds and dried fruits.  I have no place for them and they are taking over the corner of my kitchen counter.  How do you store them?  My cabinets and pantry don't have room for all these bags... do I get a basket to just throw them all in?  Is there some sort of cool organizer I don't know about?

Please help!

  • I have a small wicker basket on my kitchen island where I put small things like these. Works for me!
  • I'd get a basket if you can't fit them in your pantry. Even if I could fit them in the pantry I'd put them in a basket. I couldn't handle them being loose like that.

  • I have a basket I put things like that in sitting in my pantry
  • They would be really pretty and decorative if you put them in glass jars and displayed them. That is if you have room. It doesn't have to be expensive and the jars don't have to match. Mason jars would be cute depending on what your kitchen decor is.
  • I store nuts in rubbermaid containers and stack those in the pantry.

For that many, I'd probably buy a basket to keep them all in.

I know!!  Me too!!  I put one thing of nuts on the counter and DH followed my lead.  He does that with shoes too.  I can't leave things anywhere because he thinks that means it's fine to pile stuff there.  I go crazy trying to keep everything picked up.

This is what I *want* to do!  I didn't think about mason jars. That would be really cute.  Maybe I will do that for some of the things.  I do have an idea of where those could go...

Our local thrift store had tons of mason jars last time I was there. I didn't price them, but I'm sure they weren't much!

  • I'd put them all in a sealable rubbermaid and hide it in the pantry.
  • I do tons of plastic baskets and plastic bins inside my cabinets and pantry. It keeps everything organized and makes for more room.

If it has to be kept on your counter, you can get a nice looking basket to keep it in.

  • I have a wire rack organizer on the back of my pantry door.

  • Nuts should be in the freezer. They will rot and go bad if not kept cool.

I usually eat/use them pretty quickly.  I do keep some in the freezer.

  • Oh, ok. My friends husband has a walnut orchard, and until she started dating him, I never knew that you were supposed to put them there. I guess it makes sense.
