Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Did you ever need Stitches? (Non Medical)

Not from an Operation or having a baby but from some kind of accident?

How did you get hurt?

How many Stitches?

How Old were you?

Does the Scar bother you now?

Gimme the dirty details.

Re: Did you ever need Stitches? (Non Medical)

  • I fell down the steps when I was three and got a huge cut on my chin. I don't remember exactly how many stitches I got. The scar doesn't bother me now at all, it's barely visible.

Not from an Operation or having a baby but from some kind of accident? Yes

How did you get hurt? Opening a wine bottle with a faulty neck

How many Stitches? 10 in my thumb

    How Old were you? 22

Does the Scar bother you now? Yes, I still can't totally feel the tip of my thumb and it ticks me off.

Gimme the dirty details. You could see the bone.  1/4 mm futher and it would have needed reconnective surgery.  Niiice.

  • I cut my pinkie on a frame and needed 7 stitches.

They must have sewn thru a nerve cause getting them out felt like my finger was being sawed off.  For about 5 years after part of my pinkie was numb.  A very small part so it wasn't a biggie at all.

  • How did you get hurt? Jumped off the top of a slide and broke my arm.

    How many Stitches? around 50

    How Old were you? 7

Does the Scar bother you now? Nope, it is kind of on the inside of my arm and hardly any one notices.

Gimme the dirty details. Jumped off a slide and landed on my arm and broke it. The bone didn't pop through but when the doctor "set" it he pinched my nerves and veins and they had to re-break it and operate to repair the damage. They left it open over night...cause it was supposed to heal faster...but it swelled up too much to close the next day and I had to have a skin graft from skin off my butt. I spent 4 weeks in the hospital.

  • How did you get hurt? Ran into a wall splitting my head open.

    How many Stitches? 6

    How Old were you? 2

Does the Scar bother you now? No, I don't really think about it. It is more noticeable sometimes and people ask what happened because they'd never seen it before.

Gimme the dirty details. My grandpa was chasing me around the house, I tripped on the leg of a rocking chair, and split my head open. I don't remember it, but I do have pictures with a huge bandage in the middle of my forehead.

ETA: Duh I've had to have stitches twice!

How did you get hurt? Barbed-wire fence cut my wrist, and thumb.

How many Stitches? 14 on my wrist, 2 on my thumb

    How Old were you? 12

Does the Scar bother you now? Not really. Some people see the scar on my wrist and think I tried to commit suicide. On my thumb, I can't put a lot of pressure on it very long or else it starts to hurt really bad. I damaged some of the nerves in it.

Gimme the dirty details. We lived in the country, and I was riding a 4-wheeler out in our pasture. I'm a bit of a dare devil and was going extremely fast. I didn't realize the fence that separates our 2 pastures was so close, and I tried to turn but couldn't make it. I ran straight through it, cutting my wrist and thumb, and doing some damage to the 4-wheeler. Luckily the fence was loose, or else it would not have broken that easily.

  • I was cutting an avocado and the pit had split so my extra sharp santuko knife. ?It sliced all the way to the bone. ?This was right before I gat pregnant with Morgan.

These were my first stitches ever (beside c/s related) and my first trip to the ER. ?It was Sunday night and everything else was closed. ?They cost me 2000 dollars because we had a 2500 dollar deductible at the time. ?That hurt worse than the injury.

  • Ex boyfriend head butted me in the nose and I needed a couple stitches to heal it up. The scar doesnt bother me too much, but I hate the bump from the bone chip. I thinkt the scar would have been worse, but I used mederma on it. Oh, I think I was 18 or 19.

  • Sliced the tip of my finger trying to cut chicken mid-air...yes, don't know wtf I was thinking.

    Can't remember how many stitches.

Old enough to know better, probably 17.

Not really, but I have no feeling in my left fingertip.

  • Needed stitches? yes, but I didn't get them :(

How?  I was in a car accident about five years ago (so I was 21), and my shoulder got dragged along the road as the car flipped and slid.

How many?  Major case of road rash, but the emergency room doctor couldn't figure out how to stitch it up since there were so many deep cuts.  She cleaned it a bit and left it to heal on it's own.  By the time I got to a plastic surgeon two days later he did a thorough deep cleaning (I passed out, despite the local anesthesia) but said it was too late for stitches.  So now I have an "archipelago" of raised, keloid scars on my shoulder.

Yes, it bothers me.  It itches in the winter, hurts like hell if it gets scraped, and is visible enough to get even the silent NYC subway goers to ask what happened, not to mention all the little kids who can't help but point and stare.  I tried to have it removed before the wedding, but again nothing could be done, so I just wore my hair down, had a long veil, and tried to keep it away from the camera.

And in case you thought it couldn't get any dirtier than that -- my brother has an identical scar but didn't get the deep cleaning, so every once in a while he has tiny pebbles pop out of his!!

  • When I was five, we were playing red rover in a nursery (where there were rocking chairs). I ran into a rocking chair, and had a huge gash in my head (close to my eye). I had 39 stitches (external) plus stitches on the inside to hold up the muscle. I have a cool scar, but as I've gotten older, it has moved up (not as close to my eye), and is fairly unnoticeable because it disappears when I naturally tan (I tan very easily).
  • Yikes some gory stories here. I don't even know who "wins". I had 12 staples from c section but that's it. Whew.

$2000!  I would have cleaned and stitched you up for $20.  I'm sure getting that bill was a kick in the face.

  • When I was 4 I took a header in the driveway and busted my chin open, there is still a white mark, but it's not that noticeable.

The one that really bugs me is I had a small mole on my face and my mom took me to see a dermatologist (I was about 16) and he just whacked it off in his office. Well there is a white mark with stitch holes that is way bigger than the stupid mole and it will be there forever. Always go to a plastic surgeon to have things whacked off of your face!
