When do you give LO milk?

I'm talking like when during the morning, day, night...I'm just trying to figure out when is the best time to offer a sippy of milk. During meals, after meals? Do you do it first thing in the morning? What about at night? TIA!

Re: When do you give LO milk?

  • Max would drink milk all day if I let him, he loves it.  I usually give him a sippy when he gets up in the morning.  He has another one with breakfast.  With lunch I usually give him 1/2 water 1/2 juice, dinner is milk.

  • she usually finishes off a sippy of milk in the morning with breakfast.  she also gets a sippy at lunch but doesn't drink much - i give her water the rest of the day and she has a bottle at night before brushing teeth and books.

  • He gets milk 3x a day. He always gets milk right when he gets up and finishes it during breakfast. The other times vary and are either

    at lunch and dinner
at lunch and as a snack after his nap ends around 3:00
or after his nap and at dinner

  • when she first wakes up, around 11 (before nap), around 4 for snack, and after dinner about 6ish.  she won't drink milk with her meals, so they're more like snacks for her.

  • Mine would drink milk all day, but he only gets it at breakfast, lunch and dinner. I don't really like the thought of milk sippy cups leaving the table. I wait until he asks for it, so he doesn't guzzle it down before he eats.
  • Just during meals.  They get water during snack time and whenever they're thirsty during the day.  Our dds says to do it this way for dental health (milk and juice can sit around and decay teeth easier if not taken with food- there's extra saliva to wash everything down when you eat) and our ped agrees from a health standpoint- the kids get all the milk they need during those 3 meals and juice isn't necessary at all.
  • He gets a milk sippy with meals and probably drinks 4 oz at each meal. then he still gets 6oz milk in a bottle at bedtime. Between meals he gets water.

  • She has never drank the recommended amount so she is allowed to have milk whenever she asks.  If it sits out too long i put it in the fridge and wait until she asks for it again.

I send 1 sippy full to the ILs for the day and she usually finishes it.
