DS didn't start pointing until after a year, but DH and I don't really point to things ourselves.
Our pedi said the milestone is actually something like "indicates what they want with a gesture," which for most children is a point and grunt type thing.

she didn't start pointing until right before 15 months. and it was on her milestone check sheet from the pedi, so i figured it was normal that that's when she started!

He started right before he turned 1. We were so excited, but he stopped talking and just pointed at everything instead. We've been working on getting him to talk again, which he's starting to do more just last week, after lots of prompting.
