We had to do it, too in one of our cars (Roundabout, as well) and DS is only 13.5 months, but huge at 27lbs. He's so big and the car is so small that he was sooo upset every time I'd try to squeeze him in RF. His legs were halfay up the seat. FWIW: we have him FF in one car and RF in the other and it hasn't been an issue. He actually loves FF.

I would say get another seat as well, but I understand that isn't an option for everyone. The only thing is, he will most likely outgrow the Roundabout soon anyway, so you will need another seat before a booster. I would sell the Roundabout, and get a Marathon (or something similar). You can find Marathons online right now for a pretty good price. If your Roundabout isn't old, then you can probably get close to $100 for it on craigslist. That is how I sold ours, and then bought another Roundabout.
Eh, you made it to 1 1/2 rear-facing so that is pretty decent. Better than the average.
We have 2 roundabouts. And another baby on the way-so we bought a regent for him to use at my moms this month, so he will stay in the roundabout until he outgrows it, then go into the regent. I was just hoping to make it longer because he LOVES his rearfacing. He was forward facing at my moms and didn't do that great. He likes to recline and rest his feet on the back of the seat.
We bought it for him to use after he outgrows the Roundabout...and we used it a few times. We liked it alot-he just looks SO little in it! I think that will go in DH's car and I will get the Frontier. Although, I did get the regent for $159, so maybe I should buy another for my car.
Re: Crap, we have to forward face him...
Oh sh!t. Here we go.
hehe!

I know. I am bracing for it all, too.

The Regent is a really good seat!
I am sad they are being discontinued.
