Portion-size for a 2 1/2 year old?

I once read that 1 tbsp of veggie/fruit is a serving for a 1 year old, 2 tbsp for a 2 yr old, etc.

Does this seem right? If you go by body weight and divide the typical 150 lbs adult by 5, then for a 30 lb 2 yr old, that seems about right. (Did that make any sense? LOL.)

If you think this is the case, we're doing great. I just want to be sure DD gets her minimum of 5 servings a day.

Thanks so much:)

  • That actually seems small to me.  But I have no idea.  If this is true, DS gets about 20+ servings of Fruits and veggies a day!!! Yesterday he ate a banana, 2 apples, a pear, a fruit cup, almost 1.5 cups of sweet potato, 5 pieces of carrots, and 2 bites of a red potato!!!

    He is a veggie addict!!!

  • I've heard the tablespoon thing too, although I'm not sure when it stops.

DD does great with fruit but vegetables are another story. :(

  • when Carson started eating all regular food (no baby food no formula) i just gave him healthy options and did not worry about portions.  i let him decide when he has had enough.  that portion table thing in baby books made my head spin, lol.
