Got my first feeling of being territorial of my job!

I have a ways to go before I go on leave, but I have a client that requires way advance planning and they are beginning the next annual cycle. It is a good time for someone to cover for me on this client's needs, even though it's 3 months before I go out, because they will have the background needed and then they can work with them for an additional 3 months while I am gone. I know it's better for everyone, including me, but whoa! I felt a second of "wait that's my project" type of thing. I better let go of that soon. The business is not going to stop while I'm out!!

It only got worse for me. I felt the most territorial when I came back from ML and realized there were other people that could actually do my job and do it right (oh the shock) .

I think it is good that you take ownership of your work because it shows you care. Just be careful how you act to the person doing your position, you want their respect and for them to also take a personal interest in the work. It will make it much harder to come back if the job isn't done right or done half as*edly.
