when does 24 hours start w/ frozen milk?

So I took milk out of the freezer and put it in the fridge around 9pm last night.  Then I realized I didn't need it this morning.  I looked at it around 7am and it was still mainly frozen (looked like a slushy type consistency).   Will it be ok for a 10am feeding tomorrow?  Does the 24 hours count from when it is thawed completly or from when I take it out?  Essentially it will be in the fridge for abotu 36 hours total from frozen to feeding - is that oK?

  • I think it starts when it is completely thawed.

  • From everything I have seen it seems to start from when it was thawed..... I  know in my fridge if I put the milk in at 9pm, it doesn't usually thaw until noon. So yes, tomorrow at 10am should be just fine.

If all else fails, just smell it. You will know if it goes bad!

  • I have read the completely thawed rule of thumb.  Also, if it close to 24 hours, like 30 hours, I just smell it and if it smells fine then I still use it.  I just don't go longer than 36 hours.
  • When it's completely thawed (no ice crystals).
