Nipple Pain - try this!

I have been having a lot of nipple pain and finally called the LC.

Here is what she said:  I have OALD and OAS, therefore DS is clamping down on my nipple to stop the flow so that he can catch up.  I suspected this all along but couldn't find that info anywhere in books or online to confirm my suspicions.

Anyway - she told me to:

1) stop pumping

2) feed on one side only

3) feed in a really warm room to keep my blood vessels from constricting (who knew??!!)

4) fill a sock with some rice, nuke it, and then put it in my bra after feedings to keep nips warm.

5) position DS so that he is facing at a downward angle towards my breast so that he can control the milk flow

Not sure if this will work but at the last feeding, I put a porta-heater in DS's room and pointed it towards us and I felt better afterwards.

Hope that this helps someone.  My pain was/is so bad that I would cry during feedings (to keep from screaming!!!)

Re: Nipple Pain - try this!

  • What is OALD and OAS?  I suspect my LO has been clamping on my right nipple for a few months now.  My nipple blanches terribly, and it hurts soooo bad.  But, I've been at this for 11 months now, so I just deal with it.  It's only one nipple.
