We received a hand-me-down double Combi side-by-side stroller from my SIL/brother and needless to say, she apparently never cleaned it.
I found mold under one seat cushion
and hairballs under the other seat cushion
.
So, I spent over an hour today using high pressure hose to clean it. I'm not satisfied, I must say. So, here are my other ideas to clean it tomorrow...
1) Use antibac dish soap and a scrub brush.
2) Have DH use a power washer that heats to 150*F (won't this melt the fabric)?
3) Any others?
The stains came out with high pressure hose (cold water) and the cushions are in the wash on the 2nd washing (warm water). Thanks for any opinions you have. I am a nurse, so this totally grosses me out, germ-wise, but I'm trying to save $300 or whatever these Combi things cost. TIA!
Re: Hand-me-down stroller: How to disinfect it?
Clorox Anywhere Spray? We use this to disinfect Katie's toys.
Katie: 1/16/08 2lbs. 15oz.
Abby & Emily: 12/31/10 6lbs. 2oz. & 5lbs. 7oz.
Bleck!
I'm not sure what kind of fabric is on the stroller, but I'd be surprised if 150 degrees would melt it. I'd probably first use some sort of bleach-based cleaner to kill the mold (I'm not a fan of bleach, but I think it's the only thing that works on mold, or else a specialty cleaner for mold) and then use the hot power washer.
...when I say "mold", I literally mean one tiny speck of old dried what I think was mold. Just sheer nastiness. Of course, the power washing got rid of all debris, but the thought of it needs to be disinfected, IMO. I'm thinking scrub brush (to get into the mesh of the fabric) with GLOVES (ick) and watered down bleach. I really don't care if it discolors the stroller, but I doubt a watered-down rendition of bleach would. Anyhow, then I will sun it, allowing the UV light to kill any germs remaining. Funny how much time I'm putting into this darn thing. Yuckaroo!
