How's this for mindblowing?

I moved to the Seattle area in be able to afford to buy a home.

Oh yeah.  I know a bunch of people who moved here from the Silicon Valley and were astounded at the cheapness of the housing here.  One woman was spending something like double what my mortgage is for a 1 BR condo. 

Then I go talk to my native Seattlite friends who bought houses (with views!) on Queen Anne, Cap Hill and Ballard in the late 90s for something like $200K.

My silicon valley transplants friends were able to pay off the mortgage they had on their 500k house in less than 4 years. 

I moved from San Diego and the markets have flipped. SD is now cheaper.
