How to go about adding kid's books to the registry?

I'm considering putting something like this in the "message" part of the registry:

A and L are looking forward to sharing their love of stories with the baby, and would enjoy having your help in building a library for their new arrival!

I just want people to know that we would really appreciate kid's books, even though there aren't any specific titles on the registry.

  • Honestly, I would just add the individual books to the registry if I were you, or I would expect that you'll end up with alot of the same ones, and potentially without gift receipts (I probably wouldn't bother giving a gift receipt if I bought you a book for you at Barnes & Noble, or TJ Maxx for example).  Are you registering at Target or somewhere similar where it would be easy to add on books?  This is our first baby, so of course I don't know how it'll work out-but I would just imagine that you'll otherwise end up with several copies of the most popular books, like Goodnight Moon, Pat the Bunny, Dr. Seuss, etc.

  • I registered at Target and BRU and added the actual books to my registry.
  • We are registered at BRU and Target too and we just added books to ours as well...I have pretty much every Berenstein Bears book, b/c those were my favorites growing up! I want my daughter to love reading as much as I do so I would love for her to get way more books then toys to be honest! =}
  • We didn't have any on our registry for DS#1, but the invitations to the babyshower said something like "Instead of a card, please sign a book".  I can remember the exact wording but it was cute.

    Most people didn't really get that a small book was supposed to be instead of a card, they just bought us tons of books.

  • I'm really big on having lots of books for the baby. I added some to the registry. Also, my mom is throwing me a shower and inside the invite she added a little note so that people bring a book. It says...

    We can't wait to see you at the shower
    When (mom-to-be's name) will be the woman of the hour
    We have one request we hope isn't too hard
    Please sign your name to a book instead of a card
    Then mom and dad will be ready when the baby arrives
    To read to their darling for the rest of their lives
