fetal heart monitor

I was wondering if anyone used a fetal heart monitor when they were pregnant?

Which kind did you use and how early could you hear the heartbeat?

Was it easy to use or difficult?

I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the money because I have heard mention that it may be hard to find the heartbeat or the device wouldn't work.

Thank you!

Re: fetal heart monitor

  • We rented a doppler from bellybeats.com.  We found a coupon code through google and pay $20 a month.  Its fantastic and we heard the heartbeat around 9-10 weeks. I understand that purchasing a decent doppler can run you easily $300.

We also have a heart beat monitor that is different than a doppler.  You usually cannot hear the heartbeat until about 5 months and it will sound very different than the doppler.  We haven't tried it yet but I was going to pull it out in the next few days.  Once I can hear the HB on that, I will return the doppler

  • I rented one from heartbeatsathome.com and got it around 11 weeks and never had a problem finding both heartbeats.  I recently sent it back and ordered this one from amazon and it works just as good as the one i was paying $30 a month.

  • I had an anterior placenta so we couldn't hear the heartbeat till week 16 so it wasn't worth the money for us.

  • For my first pregnancy, I was working as a maternity home health RN and had a professional grade fetal doppler that I could use whenever I wanted.  Now I am a stay at home mom so I didn't have one for this pregnancy and really wanted one.  I bought one on Ebay for about $75 including shipping and it works great.  Found the heartbeat around 12 weeks.  The sound quality isn't as good as the one I had before, but since those go for about $300 I wasn't expecting the one off of Ebay to be as good as that one!  It works great and was well worth the money.  I figure after I am done with it I can just sell it on Ebay again or give it to a friend.  Hope this helps!

  • We rented one from hertones.com for around $19 a month I believe. We didn't try to use it before 13 weeks but had no problem finding the baby then.

  • We rent ours from babybeats.com.  They have different models.  We got their top of the line becuase it allows you to record and upload to your computer.  It also has a digital display for what baby heartbeat is for you.  It is $45/mo.  I rented it at 11 wks and heard the hb right away.
