The dr. told me to start BFing every 2 hours now during the day. When I BF should I do it for 15-20 on each breast, or let him feed until he pulls away and is finished? Thanks!

When I was in the hospital, my LC told me that, early on, you should let the baby stay on as long as he or she wants, as long as they are on there for a minimum of 20 minutes per side. She said that, when they are that young, it takes them that long to get all of the hindmilk. What I did was 20 min on one breast, then as long as she wanted on the second breast. It seemed to work for us.
I was told no longer 30min total, 15min each side. Only because that they burn calories when they are eating & the longer they eat the more calories they burn. (I was told this by the LC while DS was in the NICU)
