RP from 2nd tri: have you had a Subchorionic Hematoma

I've had spotting for a few weeks and it got worse over the weekend, I went for an U/s and the baby is thriving, but they found I have a subchorionic hemorrhage...i'm on bed rest with a "good prognosis". Just wondering if anyone has had this as well and if it's cleared up and any other information you can share. Thanks

Re: RP from 2nd tri: have you had a Subchorionic Hematoma

  • Not sure this will help you much but they found an SCH during my first u/s at 8 weeks.  The doc called asking if I had been bleeding and spotting, but I had not.  She told me not to be alarmed if I bleed because I had a rather large SCH.  She said typically it goes away in the first or second trimester and put me on pelvic rest.  I never had a bleed but went back for an u/s at about 14 weeks and it was gone.  I was told it was pretty big from the u/s tech too.

So it's not the same exact situation but hopefully it will offer you some comfort.

  • Thanks this does help!
  • Mine cleared up but did cause several problems. I was on bed rest for almost 15 weeks. I was give a 50/50 chance of the baby surviving. Mine was very large. Most are however, are small and cause no problems at all. Some women never even know they have them.  Most Dr. aren't even concerned. It was only after i went back for a follow-up at 16 weeks ( when they thought it should have been gone since they had put me on bedrest 6 weeks before that) did it become a huge issue since mine was not only still there but had gotten much larger. I bleed every day. We even discussed the possibility of a blood transfusion the blood loss had become such an issue. In the end it did go away. I see my dr. more often though since it did cause my placenta to have a small tear. Though it doesn't make you high risk all the time check with the high risk board. And as not to sugar coat it, yes women have losses from SCH, however MOST of them don't....so listen to your Dr. and if they say your good then you will more than likely be just fine.

  • Oh and i had a SCH from 9 weeks until 21 weeks. However i was told most go away after only 6-8 weeks or less.
  • I currently have one. It was first found at the E.R. during a U/S at 6wks and some change. They monitored at 8 wks, 10 wks, 12 wks, and 20 wks with no change. It hadn't moved or gotten any bigger so the Dr. is not very concerned with it. However she did put me on Pelvic rest until it does go away which probably won't be until delivery. Most of them go away on their own before the 3rd tri.

  • I had a large one from week 5 until week 14.  I bled profusely every 2 weeks or so - huge gushes of blood.  I was put on pelvic rest and told it should hopefully clear up some time in my 2nd trimester. None of my doctors were too worried.  A couple of my pregnant friends also had one at the same time as me.  I know it sounds scary, but it'll be cleared up before you know it.  Just take it easy, and drink lots of fluids.
  • I had one in the 1st tri and it cleared up on its own. I haven't had any other complications.
