Pretty sure we're not overfeeding.  One small shake of flakes (like, 6 flakes fall out) in the morning, they eat it all fast, one similar shake in the evening (again, none leftover). 

We got a small tank with filter & light and it's plastic not glass, so nowhere near as cold.

Hmm, that sounds good.  But I don't really know much about fish food.  Maybe you could call a fish store and ask about flake food?  maybe they'd be okay with just one feeding a day?
