Ideas for a "Green" Shower

My MIL and Aunt are throwing my shower at the end of April early May and I just started looking at places to have it. Now what we are looking for is ideas for a "green" theme. The color itself is a major part of it, but I am also looking for environmentally friendly options. We are registering for gdiapers and some other all natural or organic items and thought a "green" theme for the shower would be nice. Here are some of the ideas we have already, but we are looking for more!

Recycled paper invitations

Tea pots salvaged from Garage sales/ second hand stores for the centerpieces used as flower pots

Organic tea bags for favors (we are looking for something small and sweet for a favor too if anyone has any ideas)

Creative wrapping or no wrapping on gifts in place of wrapping paper

Recycling bins for plastic cups/paper/plastic items

Anything else??? I think this theme could be really cute and I am hoping through some googling and from here, we can come up with a bunch of ideas.

Thanks ladies!

Re: Ideas for a "Green" Shower

  • I would ask to not have the gifts wrapped to save on the paper.

Serve finger foods that do not require a plate (use cloth napkins instead).

Serve locally grown produce (veggie tray) and organic products.

The favors could be a little plant that they can grow at home!

  • You can ask people not to wrap the gifts...but they will anyway.  I've gone to a couple of green showers and a lot of the guests had no idea what the heck it meant (especially the older ladies).

As for the teapots...cute idea.  If you play games they could be the prizes.  They will not be inexpensive though.  Rarely do you find them at garage sales and at the resale shops where I live they are $25 or more depending on how old they are.  Maybe you could "borrow" some instead...but don't just put dirt in them...maybe put some plastic wrap in them first.  I wouldn't mind loaning out mine (I have 4 and 3 are very old) but I wouldn't want dirt in them either.  lol

You know, I didn't really think about how much they would be... but our back up plan is just to "recycle" anything that can be turned into a planter. Hopefuly we can find some stuff!

These cards are so cute and green (assuming they get planted!)

  • I would give away the centerpieces as gifts for games (if you're going to be doing them) and I'd also recommend doing a plant/seeds for a favor.
  • Get various teacups and plant flowers in those! They're easy to find at Goodwill and other resale stores!
