3rd Trimester

New babies and the Thermostat

So I'm really getting ready for this baby.  We are so excited!

We normally turn the thermostat down to 64 at night and keep it at 68 degrees during the day.  I read an article that says that the temp should be kept between 65 and 68, so that seems to be okay.  But have any of you heard from the doctor about the appropriate temp to keep your home when there is a newborn involved?  Is the swaddle and hat enough at night?

  • yea...i dont think docs will usuallytell you what temp to keep your house. If you want to keep it at that temp just bundle baby up. Personally, I'd keep it at 70.

  • I've read that keeping it between 68 and 72 is the best combo of warmth for the baby and reduction of the risk of SIDS.  I figure LO will let us know if he's too cold at night (by crying until we newbie parents can figure out what's wrong!), and we can figure out how to adjust from there.

  • My Doc always said whatever is comfortable for you is usually comfortable for LO, but if you have it in the 60s I might just swaddle and you should be fine.
