Just wanted to know what you ladies would be purchasing. The traditional car seat also known as a (travel system) or convertiable car seat that can go into an infant/toddler/booster seat (5lbs-100lbs)? Me personally the convertiable car seat. Only because the travel system was a waste of money for me anyway, and then had to turn around and buy a toddler seat. Just my thought. How about yours?
Re: Car seat poll:
We registered for both and got them both! I like being able to put LO in the carseat & carry it to/from the car and in stores...
If you don't get a travel system carseat... where will you put LO when you go into the store etc. when you have two kids?? Do the convertable carseats truly fit a newborn???
You can buy an infant seat without buying a travel system. I have the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio infant seat. I did not buy a travel system.
I'm confused what you're asking. Why is a travel system called a "traditional car seat"? A travel system = infant car seat + matching stroller. We aren't getting a travel system, but did buy an infant carseat to use in the beginning, and then we'll switch over to the convertible carseat.
And to pp who asked, yes, most convertible seats accomodate infants. Many people buy an infant seat in the beginning for its convenience/safety.
We are getting an infant seat, based on the Baby Bargains recommendation. But, we are not getting a full-fledged travel system. We bought a Baby Jogger stroller and will play it by ear on the car seat attachment...
This is what I did for DD#2. I did have to buy another infant carseat this time around due to the expiration date. I personally would never use a convertible carseat for a newborn simple because of the fit. Convertible carseats are so large it is really hard to get the seatbelt on right for smaller infants. I have two convertible carseats in my van now and they do take up a lot of space as well.
we got both.. For my Car we got a Peg Perego Infant car seat.. N for DH car we got a Britax Boulevard Convertible Car Seat
I ended up buying an infant seat for DS #1 and then a convertible later on when he was too big to lug around in the infant seat. Now with DS #2 I can use the infant seat again while DS #1 is still in his convertible one.
I must say that we used the infant seat and matching stroller a lot. It was very convenient.
I'm just trying to figure out where to put the infant seat and where to put the convertible seat in my car. Hmm...
This.
This is the travel system I got. Graco duoglide zarafa in the pics it looks pink but its orange! really cute for by boy/girl twins!
This is what we're doing, too.
We'll re-use our Graco Snugride from DD#1.
I liked the convenience of the infant carrier, and being able to use it with a snap & go for a cheap stroller set-up. It's SO much easier to not have to take a sleeping infant in and out of a convertible, and since I'll be juggling two kids now when I'm out, I want the baby to sleep as much as possible.
Plus, the infant seat is considerably cheaper than buying another convertible. We'll do that eventually, of course.

I got a travel system for a couple reasons:
1) I'm using the car seat as a carrier and to lock into the stroller.
2) The toddler car seats are so huge so I figured save some space while I can.
3) We plan on having another baby within a few years of the first so I may need two car seats at a time at that point.
But I can see the logic in just getting the toddler seat. It would certainly save money.
