I'm only 10 weeks, and MIL and SIL are already rubbing my belly. My nonexistant belly. They also like to lean down to crotch level and talk to the non existant belly. It drives me crazy.
When DH mentioned to MIL that there will be no further touching of my belly, she immedietly started whining about how she she wants to bond with the baby and feel it kick, etc. Really, MIL? You can't bond with the baby once it's born? Is it not possible that DH and I would like to enjoy a thing or two about this pregnancy just between the 2 of us?
Re: Vent: Touchy feely family members
It seems like your inlaws are a very invasive people....I have a MIL like that as well...I actually slapped her hand away once (it was a reflex but still I didn't want her touching my belly...it creeps me out!)
Unfortunately once Aubrey became an outside baby she is constantly pressuring me to let her bond with her...but she oversteps her boundaries BIG time. I have to get Wes to remind her we are the parents not her. Also she is extremely competitive with my parents. I hope that you won't have the same problem!
Good thing you put an end to it before it got to be too much!
I made the mistake of not doing that at work......some of them are driving me a little nuts with the belly rubbing all day!!!!
This. And I agree with pp that your ILs are an interesting lot. They may mean well...but they cross the line way too often.
Amy, I think it has to do with them being Italian. Everyone gets hugged, touched, etc., even if they just met you. But yes, they cross the line frequently.
I think your DH did well in marrying you. It takes a good woman to deal with that.
