Now ya'll have me wondering....

The post below got me thinking. I stopped taking BC on 12/20/09 and started AF on 12/21/09. I was on Seasonique the 3 month BC and Depo before that so I am not familiar with my cycle and when I ovulate and all that. My gyn said days 10-16 after my cycle starts most likely. We had sex without protection on 12/31/09 which would be day 11. Last week I was having slight pain/cramping in my lower stomach/right side kinda like period cramps and my boobs were really sore, mostly my nipples not really my whole boob. So are these PG symptoms and would it be possible to have these symptoms this soon if I got PG on 12/31 or am I just crazy. Sorry if TMI and thanks in advance.

  • honestly, imo, pg symptoms parallel AF symptoms so much that it's really hard to tell. it could be either. i charted for 5+ yrs, and knew my cycles like clockwork, and still couldn't distinguish b/w pg/AF symptoms b/c i got the same symptoms every cycle (sore bbs, cramping, mood swings, etc). we got pg on our 2nd cycle trying, and the 1st cycle i could have sworn that i was, but it was really my mind playing tricks on me. the only way i knew for sure was testing a couple of days before AF was scheduled to arrive.

Ditto this. Every month my AF symptoms were PG symptoms.  The only symptom I never had with AF that I got and knew I was pregnant were tingling BBs and sore nips.  I actually felt implantation and suspected that's what it was b/c I've never felt that kind of pain with any cramps that I've had.  Everyone is different and the best I can tell you is just test when AF is due.  Good luck!

  • Ok thanks ladies. I had AF a couple weeks ago so I really wasn't thinking that was it, but I just didn't know if it was to soon to be PG symptoms. But thanks again for the info.

  • If the sex in question was 12/31, that was 10 days ago today.  If your symptoms were going on last week, that is likely too early. It can take a few days after ovulation before it would implant. Only after that implantation, you could feel symptoms-typically, around 2 weeks after the ovulation. (I know some people get very early BFPs, at 9 days later, etc. sometimes-but this is just generally speaking.)

Just remember that since you just off BC, you could ovulate later than you think, and your cycle may be longer than you've had before. You'll just have to wait and see. My first cycle after BC was 35 days long. I didn't ovulate until day 21. It can also be a while before they regulate.

I understand thinking about it, though! I totally had a phantom symptom or two myself this week, even though I know I am not pregnant and we are currently on a TTC break. PMS symptoms are annoyingly similar, unfortunately!

  • I'm going to agree with everyone else..I charted, knew my cycles very well, and in the end product my AF symptoms and pregnancy symptoms were the same...in fact the month I got my BFP I was so sure AF was going to show up.
