Breastfeeding

Anyone have this problem...

DD is almost 3 months. And about 3 weeks ago she started giving my problems while I was feeding her. She would start eating and then after about 4 mins on the first side she would stop and start crying. After the first time I was like ok, it was probably just something I ate or maybe she wasn't ready to eat.....

But then there will be a couple days in a row where its every feeding she will cry after a few minutes of starting.  I've tried changing positions but that doesn't seem to help. She barely ever has a bottle so that can't be the issue...

Anyone else have this problem and did you do anything to change it or just fight through the frustration?

Re: Anyone have this problem...

  • Thats how my DD was acting and she was diagnosed with acid reflux, but she was also spiting up a lot. Try cutting out dairy, thats another thing my Dr. recommended.

  • Your flow or letdown may not be to your LO's liking. I would think she would be used to it by now though.
  • She doesn't spit up that much but thanks for the advice on the dairy.

Yea, I figured she be used to it as well. Most of the time she is a really good eater but she has her days where she does that. I wish I could figure it out though...

Even with no spit up she could have silent reflux.

  • Hmm, I didn't realize. Thanks! I'll look into that.
  • My LO does that sometimes when she needs to burp mid-feeding. She'll gulp so fast the first few minutes that she apparently swallows a bunch of air.
  • Is that side empty?  At that age she is starting to get more efficient.  My daughter starting at about 4 months could empty one side in 5-7 minutes.
  • We have the same problem.  It happens very randomly and I have no idea why.  I've experimented with all sorts of things.  I only know that he never fusses during the first feeding of the day, he never fusses during his bottle (DH gives him one a day), and he'll stop fussing if I stand up and rock him while he nurses.

     Weird...
