I am pretty upset about this and may have a hard time making sense, but bear with me.
I went to Macy's today to pick up Sophie from the lost and found. When I arrived I was informed that after they called to tell me that they'd found her, somebody else showed up asking for her with a picture printed off the computer to show exactly what they were looking for. The lost and found people decided to give Sophie to this person. So when I showed up Sophie was gone.
When I originally went to the lost and found yesterday and asked after sophie they looked at me like I was from mars, asked how to spell giraffe... obviously nobody had come looking for something like this in recent history. So I find it very hard to believe that two people in one day lost a Sophie at Macy's...I really don't think this other person had a legit claim.
The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that somebody (I would hope not a regular poster, more likely one of the many many lurkers that we tend to forget are out there) read my posts about Sophie and figured out how to score a free, overpriced, beloved giraffe.
This really, really sucks. I couldn't care less about the toy itself but I feel really creeped out and violated, and whether it's unfounded or not, betrayed.
I've "known" the majority of the people on this board for as long as 5 years and I feel very safe here and it is very easy to forget that all sorts of people can read these posts and take advantage of any information we share. I don't want to have to put my guard up, but I'm going to think twice about what I say here from now on.
Re: Am I being paranoid (Please read - re: bump & privacy)
I don't think you're being paranoid at all. This is why I don't have pics in my siggy anymore. I'd be willing to bet there are numerous creepers reading along and looking at pics....Sad to think that way but you just never know.
Sorry about Sophie. :-(
I don't know, but if someone saw you post and swiped your DC's sophie, they're pretty sick. What kind of person steals a baby's favorite toy???
EDIT: I just took down my siggy. I'm a little paranoid now, too.
Whoever did that can FOAD. Seriously. That is pretty freaking low to steal a Sophie from a baby.
From.a.BABY.
Unable to even.

ACK now I am sad your photo is gone! I get it, but am just sad!
Did you say on here where exactly you lost it? Or did someone stalk it down?
That is incredibly disappointing and pretty darn sad. Makes me wonder what kind of pathetic people we have living in this city. On top of which, this is a toy that goes in a baby's mouth. Why would anyone want it second hand?
Ugh. So many questions. Definitely a good reminder on guarding what we share on here.
I think about that all the time so you're not being paranoid at all. I take my sig pick down from time to time because I'm still a little uneasy about having it up (I might take it down again now that I think about it). I also stopped using DDs and my name a while back and I've always tried to avoid saying where I live. This internet is for the public and you never know who's watching.
Hey thieving person, guess what? Every time you see Sophie, you'll remember that you are a thief who steals from babies.
I hope that thought sticks with you. You stole a toy from a baby. Was it worth it?
I said it was at Macy's and my profile said I where I lived - there's one mall near me so it wouldn't be hard to figure out. I considered calling some other Macy's to see if someone was calling around to see where it was but at this point I am trying to find a way to forgive and forget.
I thought this too: I remember you saying mall but don't recall where or how the person would even find the right store. There are what, 7 Macy's in the Seattle area? But I tend to be too naive for my own good sometimes.

I just took my siggy off to.....you know, just in case
I do want to think people are better than that though and I tend to give society the benefit of the doubt.
Wow. W-o-w.
I'm so sorry A, for both you and J. What kind of creep does something like that???
To the creep who took Sophie: you are a freaking d-bag.

It's a GIRL! Lydia Marie!
I remember you saying mall, but not what store or what mall. In either of your posts!
Do you think it was a person who worked there and maybe they made something up?
I actually said Macy's in a reply to my orig post. Combined with where I live, (used to say under my pic in the corner of my posts) it's easy to guess.
I was thinking it could be someone who worked there, and am not totally convinced that's not the case, but they would have had to make up a pretty elaborate story. Seems like if it was someone who worked there they could just say, "gosh, sorry, it's not here any more."
I'm sorry that happened, it would freak me out too. I have regretted multiple times posting my personal information on here, and I should know better. The story the clerk told you is a little too detailed and doesn't sound like a fluke.
Ugh, I need to put a post-it on my computer screen reminding me to be more careful with my info. I really let my guard down on the boards.
wowza! this is a good bit of advice for us all to remember how public this place is.
the girls on the 3-6 month board all put watermarks on their siggy pics cuz some sicko used one of their babies pics and said it was their baby in a blog post or something! creeeeeeeeepy!
That is seriously effed up. Who would do something like that? I'm so sorry.
This is the reason I took our names out of my siggy and no longer post a picture, as well as took my city out of my profile. People creep me out.
WT mother F? That is just unbelievably low that someone would steal a baby's favorite toy. I know Sophies aren't the cheapest toy ever but someone who finds it more worthwhile to steal a baby's used, beloved toy- and to spend the time and energy to locate and swipe it- well, their own sense of integrity is obviously worth sh!t if they can't fork over $15 or $20 and be an honest person. This is a good warning, I guess, if we want to take something positive from it, and I too have removed some info from my profile. Pearly, sorry this happened to you and J but thanks for giving us a reminder that sometimes we need to be more careful since there are some real creeps out there.
To the thief, if you're reading this: you are a low, worthless jackass and I hope Karma gives you a good swift kick in the balls.
I guess I am what can be referred to as a "lurker" but mostly because for THIS reason I don't give any personal info on here - including pictures / names of myself / husband / baby. There have been many incidents of people calling bumpies' husbands (!), work/bosses, stealing photos, etc. and it creeps me the EFF out. My baby is sooo cute too
) and I would love to show him off in a siggy pic, but .... It is the internet you know - there could be child molesters lurking on here just taking baby pics off of the site. I know it might sound paranoid, but better safe than sorry. Anyway - I do read a lot of the local boards but I don't know anybody on here mainly because I don't share anything too personal, I guess.
I'm sorry this happened to you - it's definitely creepy.
I don't remember you saying Macy's in your other post though did you?
That's really sick and weird if someone really did taht. And so sad. If you're here mean Sophie stealer - go away!
In thinking about it, I do think it's possible that an employee took it...like a pp said, that seems unlikely with the detailed story they gave, but maybe if she was the person who did it, she thought a detailed story would be more believable? People do steal weird stuff. I lived with a girl in college who was as nice and sweet as could be, and random stuff disappeared while we lived together, and then when she moved out she took one of my credit cards and a bunch of other weird stuff...not things you'd expect, like a DVD player, but things like a white plastic trash can. WTF?
Anyway, I know it could have been a crazy lurker, but I hold out hope that maybe it wasn't.
That makes me feel yucky. I don't like people much, these days : (
There are all kinds of weird ppl out there! So sorry they took your toy
I have been catching up. Not to scare you but Seattle is not as "nice" as everyone thinks it is, I have a good friend on Seattle PD and I hear all kinds of stories that are not publicized.
Its pretty disgusting that someone would steal a baby's toy, I just feel sorry for them that they are that sick.
Glad you are getting a new one and that there are some decent ppl out there!
